Vision expertise in a compact space

More than just a code reader: Compact sensor from di-soric with a wide range of features reliably detects even the smallest characters

With a resolution of up to 3.2 megapixels and a minimum focal length of 3.6 mm, the ID-520 fixed-mount ID reader from di-soric can read extremely small 1D, 2D and directly marked codes, as well as small text, even in tight installation spaces. As one of the smallest in its class, this exceptionally lightweight ID reader combines code identification with traditional image processing at a reasonable price. In addition to integration into new systems, retrofits are opening up entirely new areas of application for the ID-520 across numerous industrial sectors. The accompanying nVision-i Software 26.1 from di-soric is designed for ease of use and transparency.

With its compact dimensions of 25 mm x 45 mm x 53.7 mm—including space-saving cable whips—the new ID-520 from di-soric is one of the most compact devices in its class. With focal lengths of 3.6 mm, 8 mm, 16 mm and 25 mm, it meets all standard application requirements at short and medium working distances. This makes the ID-520 the preferred solution across industries for applications with limited space. Unlike traditional code readers, the ID-520 fixed-mount ID reader from di-soric seamlessly combines high-performance code reading with traditional image processing and also handles tasks such as OCR and position detection. This makes the ID-520 a reliable tool for quality control as well.

The ID-520 also demonstrates its advantages in retrofit projects, where existing systems are upgraded with modern testing and identification applications to increase productivity. Where other readers are still unable to detect a clear image, an ID-520 with a focal length of 3.6 mm—mounted, for example, on the arm of the pallet label applicator—reliably reads the barcode that has just been applied as soon as it returns and transmits the result to the control system (see Figure 2). This saves cycle time and, in some cases, even eliminates additional process steps.

In the medical technology sector, products are often labeled with a Unique Device Identifier (UDI), which consists of a 2D code and plain-text labeling. The high-performance ID-520 scans the codes and verifies the information they contain by comparing it with the printed text. Thanks to its high resolution of 3.2 megapixels, the ID-520 can recognize even extremely small codes and characters at close range and automatically verifies the scanned data against the plain-text label. Image correction and calibration functions optimize image quality and ensure that codes and text are easy to read.

In many manufacturing, assembly and packaging processes, the smart use of di-soric’s ultra-compact code readers eliminates the need for additional inspection stations. The innovative nVision-i image processing solution from di-soric, which has been proven over many years, stands for versatility, simplicity and flexibility in use. The clearly structured, self-explanatory user interface enables users to carry out integration and commissioning on their own without any programming knowledge.

The di-soric code reader comes equipped with integrated white LED lighting. The rugged housing effectively protects the ID-520 from dust. The supported industry protocols are Digital I/O, TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP/SFTP and Ethernet/IP.
The new ID-520 fixed-mount ID reader is future-proof and was developed in accordance with the requirements of the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
